چکیده
The content of secondary metabolites in the rhizome Curcuma genus such as Black turmeric (Curcuma aeruginosa Roxb.), White zedoaria (Christm.) Roscoe) and Java xanthorrhiza Roxb.) play a role various pharmacological activities. One them is curcuminoid compounds which have been proved to antibacterial activity. This study aims screen metabolite compounds, determine verify activity extracts Roxb.). Extraction was carried out by maceration method using 95% ethanol solvent. Phytochemical screening tested for alkaloid, polyphenols, flavonoids, quinones, tannins, saponins, steroids/ triterpenoids compounds. Determination UV-Vis Spectrophotometry method. test microdilution against Staphylococcus aureus, epidermidis, Propionibacterium acne bacteria. results phytochemical showed that three contained polyphenols flavonoids. Quinone are only extract turmeric. Saponin were detected extracts. Meanwhile, steroid/ triterpenoid determination on had highest curcuminoids (16.07 ± 0.023 mg CE/g extract). strongest samples shown with minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) value 64 mg/mL aureus bacteria; 256 epidermidis 32 These indicate more active

ANTIMICROBIAL AND IDENTIFICATION OF ACTIVE COMPOUND Curcuma xanthorrhiza Roxb
The ethanol 70% extract of Curcuma xanthorrhiza Roxb inhibited the growth of Gram positive bacteria S. aureus and S. mutans in a concentration of 1.0-5.0% (w/v), while B. cereus in a concentration of 2.0-5.0% (w/v). The Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) of ethanol 70% extract toward S. aureus and S. mutans were 0.1% (w/v), while against B. cereus it showed 2.0% (w/v). Phytochemistry analys...
متن کاملEstrogenic activity of xanthorrhizol isolated from curcuma xanthorrhiza ROXB.
Plant-derived estrogen-like compounds, or phytoestrogens, are given much attention due to their potential therapeutic use. In this study, xanthorrhizol, a natural sesquiterpenoid isolated from the rhizome of Curcuma xanthorrhiza ROXB. (Zingiberaceae), was evaluated for its estrogenic activity. It has been known that compounds acting as ligands for estrogen receptors (ERs) are considered to poss...
متن کاملA COMPARATIVE STUDY ON GENOTOXIC ACTIVITY OF CURCUMA AROMATICA Salisb AND CURCUMA ZEDOARIA (Christm.) Roscoe RHIZOMES . Review of literature
Snu-Yao Tsai et al., (2011) isolated the essential oils from the dried rhizomes of Curcuma aromatica salisb, Curcuma longa and Curcuma sichuanensis using simultaneous steam distillation and solvent extraction apparatus. Antioxidant studies were also carried out for these essential oils. Effectiveness for scavenging 1,1diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radicals was found to be less in Curcuma aromatica ...
متن کاملIn Vitro antimycotic activity of xanthorrhizol isolated from Curcuma xanthorrhiza Roxb. against opportunistic filamentous fungi.
Xanthorrhizol was isolated from the rhizome of Curcuma xanthorrhiza (Zingiberaceae) and its in vitro activity against opportunistic filamentous fungi was evaluated using the NCCLS (M38-A) standard method. Xanthorrhizol was found to be active against all the species tested, namely Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus fumigatus, Aspergillus niger, Fusarium oxysporum, Rhizopus oryzae and Trichophyton m...
متن کاملIn vitro anticandidal activity of xanthorrhizol isolated from Curcuma xanthorrhiza Roxb.
OBJECTIVES Xanthorrhizol, isolated from the methanol extract of Curcuma xanthorrhiza Roxb., was investigated for its anticandidal activity using six Candida species. METHODS The in vitro susceptibility tests for xanthorrhizol were carried out in terms of MIC and minimal fungicidal concentration (MFC) using the NCCLS M27-A2 broth microdilution method. Time-kill curves were determined to assess...
